Alpine SPV-65X-WRA Speaker Bundle Installation Guide | 2012-2014 JK
This installation guide is intended to be used to assist you during the installation of your Alpine SPV-65X-WRA 8 Speaker Jeep JK Plug and Play Bundle
from Bantam Overland.

Tools Needed:
  • 9/32 inch socket (or 7mm socket)
  • 5/16 inch socket (or 8mm socket)
  • 3/8 inch socket (or 10mm socket)
  • Ratchet wrench (Manual or powered)
  • Socket extension
  • Panel removal tool (Plastic preferred)
  • Side cutter
  • Zip Ties
  • Flash light or work light
Step 1

Removal of dash tweeters:
  • Remove the dash (tombstone) speaker using a panel removal tool by prying out on the tweeter.
  • Disconnect the speaker connector from factory speaker.

Step 2

Remove side panel:

  • Use a pry tool to remove the side panel from the side of the dash near the opening for the door. 

Relocate the factory tweeter wire:

  • Locate the factory tweeter connector and pull down out of the tombstone tweeter mount and into the dash cavity. 

Step 3

Installation of dash tweeters:

  • Insert the wiring harness from the Alpine tweeter into the tombstone mount and down into the dash cavity.
  • Connect the tweeter harness (Bag labeled Dash) with inline crossover to the speaker:
    • Connect the small 1/8th inch male and female spade connectors.
      • Connect the solid black wire from the speaker to the solid black wire from crossover. 
      • You have 2 options for connecting the black/white stripe wire:
        • For a brighter sounding tweeter, connect the red wire from the crossover to the black/white stripe wire from the speaker.
        • For a less bright sounding tweeter, connect the black/white stripe wire from the crossover to the black/white stripe wire from the speaker.
      • Make sure that the rubber insulators are covering the speaker connections.
    • Connect the crossover wiring harness to the factory tweeter connector:
      • Connect the white connector labeled "Input 2007-2014 Models" to speaker connector from dash.
    • Secure any loose wires with a zip tie, if needed.
  • Once all connections are made from the tweeter to the wiring, orient tweeter so that Alpine logo is at the bottom of the tweeter and press into the tombstone mount. 
    • Alpine tweeter should lock into place and fit flush to the tombstone. 

Repeat Steps 1-3 for other tweeter.

Step 4

Removing the driver side knee pod:
  • Start by removing the lower dash panel located under and around the steering wheel.
    • This panel is held in with pressure clips and can be removed with your hands by pulling back towards you on the top of the panel. The panel can than be lifted out of the way to reveal two screws. These can be removed with a 9/32 inch (or 7mm) socket. Place in the cup holder for safe keeping.
    • Remove the door retention strap from the holder located inside the drivers kick panel.
      • This will give you better access to the knee pod.
    • Remove the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) screws that hold in the side of the knee pod. These are located on the outside of the pod near the door.
    • Remove the 9/32 inch (or 7mm) screw from the bottom left corner of the dash that holds in the bottom of the dash.
    • Remove the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) bolts holding in the lower dash to the lower dash support.
    • Remove the two 3/8th inch (or 10mm) bolts holding in the metal dash support bracket located under the steering column.
    • Remove the last bolt holding in the speaker pod. This 3/8th inch (or 10mm) bolts is located under the dash in the lower dash support to the left of the steering column.
    • Disconnect the factory speaker wire connection from speaker pod by depressing the tab. The tab is facing the firewall.
    • Gently pull back on the left side of the dash with one hand and remove the entire speaker pod.
      • We recommend grabbing the dash with your right hand and the speaker pod with your left. Pull the top of the speaker pod down, rotate and remove through the side of the dash nearest the door opening.
    Step 5

    Removing the factory speaker from knee pod:
    • Remove the three phillips head screws from the speaker.
    • Remove speaker and disconnect the factory wiring harness from the back of the speaker.

    Step 6

    Installing the driver side knee pod speaker into pod:

    • Connect the factory speaker connectors from inside the pod to the Alpine speaker.
      • Disregard the additional wire labeled "2007-2014 Models." This connector is not needed. 
    • Place the speaker assembly into the factory speaker pod. Align the larger tab to the top of the speaker pod.
    • Secure the speaker to the pod using the factory hardware.

    Step 7

    Installing the speaker pod back into the dash:

    • Gently pull back on the dash and work speaker pod back into place. Be sure not to damage the front of the speaker.
    • Align the speaker pod assembly with the two bolts that secure the left side of the pod. Replace the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) bolts, being sure to leave them loose until all bolts are in place.
    • Replace the 3/8th inch (or 10mm) bolt that secures the bottom of the speaker pod. You may need to adjust the pod in order to get the holes to line up.
    • Once these three bolts are started, you can tighten all 3 being sure not to over tighten.
    • Re-connect the factory speaker wire harness to the back of the speaker pod.
    • Replace the metal dash support and secure with two 3/8 inch (or 10mm) bolts.
    • Replace the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) bolts holding in the lower dash to the lower dash support.
    • Replace the 9/32 inch (or 7mm) screw from the bottom left corner of the dash that holds in the bottom of the dash.
    • Replace the side panel located near the door opening.
    • Replace the lower dash panel that is under and around the steering column.
    • Replace the door retention strap onto the holder. If you unplugged the harness for your door, be sure to reconnect it at this time!
    Step 8

    Removing the passenger side knee pod:
    • Remove the glove box by opening, pressing in the side of the glove box and pivoting down and out.
    • Remove the door retention strap from the holder.
    • Remove the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) screws that hold in the side of the knee pod.
      • These are located on the outside of the pod near the door.
    • Remove the 9/32 inch (or 7mm) screw from the bottom right corner of the dash that holds in the bottom of the dash.
    • Remove the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) bolts holding in the lower dash to the lower dash support (For glovebox).
    • Remove the last bolt holding in the speaker pod. This 3/8th inch (or 10mm) bolts is located under the dash in the lower dash support to the left of the speaker pod.
    • Disconnect the factory speaker wire connection from speaker pod by depressing the tab. The tab is facing the firewall.
    • Gently pull back on the right side of the dash with one hand and remove the entire speaker pod. We recommend grabbing the dash with your right hand and the speaker pod with your left. Pull the top of the speaker pod down, rotate and remove through the glove box opening.
    Step 9

    Removing the factory speaker from knee pod:
    • Remove the three phillips head screws from the speaker.
    • Remove speaker and disconnect the factory wiring harness from the back of the speaker.

    Step 10

    Installing the passenger side knee pod speaker into pod:

    • Connect the factory speaker connectors from inside the pod to the Alpine speaker.
      • Disregard the additional wire labeled "2007-2014 Models." This connector is not needed. 
    • Place the speaker assembly into the factory speaker pod. Align the larger tab to the top of the speaker pod.
    • Secure the speaker to the pod using the factory hardware.

    Step 11

    Installing the speaker pod back into the dash:

    • Gently pull back on the dash and work speaker pod back into place. Be sure not to damage the front of the speaker.
    • Align the speaker pod assembly with the two bolts that secure the right side of the pod. Replace the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) bolts, being sure to leave them loose until all bolts are in place.
    • Replace the 3/8th inch (or 10mm) bolt that secures the bottom of the speaker pod. You may need to adjust the pod in order to get the holes to line up.
    • Once these three bolts are started, you can tighten all 3 being sure not to over tighten.
    • Re-connect the factory speaker wire harness to the back of the speaker pod.
    • Replace the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) bolts holding in the lower dash to the lower dash support (For glovebox).
    • Replace the 9/32 inch (or 7mm) screw from the bottom right corner of the dash that holds in the bottom of the dash.
    • Replace the side panel located near the door opening.
    • Replace the glove box by lining up the hinges, pivoting up, press in the sides inward pass the opening and close.
    • Replace the door retention strap onto the holder. If you unplugged the harness for your door, be sure to reconnect it at this time!
    Step 12

    Removing the overhead sound bar:

    Soft Top:
    Using a 3/8th inch (or 10mm) socket:
    • Remove the two bolts to the outside of the soundbar, nearest the doors
    • Remove two bolts to the inside of the soundbar, located towards the middle (In between the dome light and the speaker grille).
    • Disconnect the factory speaker wiring from the passenger side of the sound bar. We recommend having 2 people for the removal of the soundbar.

    Hard Top:
    Using a 3/8th inch (or 10mm) socket:
    • Remove the two bolts to the outside of the soundbar, nearest the doors
    • Remove two bolts to the inside of the soundbar, located towards the middle (In between the dome light and the speaker grille).
    • Remove the two screw downs from the center of the sound bar, if applicable.
    • Disconnect the factory speaker wiring from the passenger side of the sound bar. We recommend having 2 people for the removal of the soundbar.

    Place your sound bar on a workbench or table to prepare for next step.

    Step 13

    Removing the factory speakers from sound bar:
    • Remove three T20 torx head screws from speaker grille.
    • Remove grille and set to the side.
    • Remove three T25 torx head screws from factory 6.5 inch speaker and disconnect wiring connector. Take note of the orientation of the speaker mounting holes.
    • Repeat same steps to remove factory speaker from other side of sound bar.

    Step 14

    Installing speakers into the sound bar:

    Before permanently mounting your tweeters and speakers, we are going to mock them up to ensure that all parts are lined up to your liking. 

    • Place the 6.5 inch speakers into the opening in the soundbar, lining up the tabs on the speaker with the factory mounting locations. 
    • Place the Alpine tweeter into the provided speaker grille. Do not press the tweeter into place just yet.
    • Place the provided Alpine speaker grille over top of the 6.5 in speaker, again lining up the tabs with the speaker. 
    • Adjust the orientation of the Alpine logo on the tweeter to your desired location. Once you are happy with the orientation, remove the grille from the 6.5 inch speaker and press the tweeter into place, locking it into the grille. 
    • Route the tweeter wires through the opening in the back of the grille, across the spoke of the grille and out the opening in the outer ring of the grille. 
      • Use the provided locking tab to secure the wire to the underside of the grille. Note that the ends are beveled and it will only lock into place one way.

    1 inch tweeter:

    Connect the tweeter harness (Bag labeled Sound Bar) with inline crossover to the speaker:

    • Connect the small 1/8th inch male and female spade connectors.
      • Connect the solid black wire from the speaker to the solid black wire from crossover. 
      • You have 2 options for connecting the black/white stripe wire:
        • For a brighter sounding tweeter, connect the red wire from the crossover to the black/white stripe wire from the speaker.
        • For a less bright sounding tweeter, connect the black/white stripe wire from the crossover to the black/white stripe wire from the speaker.
    • Make sure that the rubber insulators are covering the speaker connections.
    • Connect the crossover wiring harness to the 2007-2014 connector from the 6.5 inch speaker:
      • Connect the black connector labeled "Input 2007-2014 Models" to speaker connector from crossover.
      • Secure any loose wires with a zip tie, if needed.

    6.5 inch speaker:

    • Connect the factory speaker connectors from inside the pod to the Alpine speaker.
    • Place the speaker assembly into the factory speaker pod. 
    • Secure the speaker to the pod using the factory hardware.

    Step 15

    Re-install the sound bar:

    Soft Top:
    Using a 3/8th inch (or 10mm) socket:

    • Replace the two bolts to the outside of the soundbar, nearest the doors
    • Replace two bolts to the inside of the soundbar, located towards the middle (In between the dome light and the speaker grille).
    • Re-connect the factory speaker wiring from the passenger side of the sound bar. We recommend having 2 people for the reinstallation of the soundbar.
    Hard Top:
    Using a 3/8th inch (or 10mm) socket:
    • Replace the two bolts to the outside of the soundbar, nearest the doors
    • Replace two bolts to the inside of the soundbar, located towards the middle (In between the dome light and the speaker grille).
    • Replace the two screw downs from the center of the sound bar, if applicable.
    • Re-connect the factory speaker wiring from the passenger side of the sound bar. We recommend having 2 people for the reinstallation of the soundbar.
    Step 16

    Test out your new speaker bundle!
